Customize Lapel Pins

A lapel pin, also known as an enamel pin, is a small pin worn on clothing, often on the lapel of a jacket, attached to a bag, or displayed on a piece of fabric. Lapel pins can be ornamental or can indicate the wearer’s affiliation with an organization or cause. Before the popularity of wearing lapel pins, boutonnières were worn.

Types of Lapel Pins

Hard Enamel Pin

Hard enamel pins (also called cloisonné pins) are created by pouring enamel several times in the recessed areas of the metal and is heated at very high temperatures. It is then polished smooth to ensure that the enamel is at the same level as the metal edges.

Soft Enamel Pin

Soft enamel pins are created by adding the enamel only once in the recessed areas of the metal and then baked hard. The enamel is below the metal edges, so when you touch the pin, you get a textured feel.

Die Struck Pin

Die struck lapel pins are made by creating a die/mold with your chosen design. This die is then used to cast your lapel pins. Copper or brass are used because of the soft properties of these metals allows for a sharp and detailed stamping.

Silk Screen Pin

The even lines in the artwork are created by using a custom stencil to apply colors one at a time to the surface of your pins. The result is a design that completely covers the pin's surface without the need for metal strokes in the design to separate colors.

A pin-back button or pinback button, pin button, button badge, or simply pin-back or badge, is a button or badge that can be temporarily fastened to the surface of a garment using a safety pin, or a pin formed from wire, a clutch or other mechanism.

Attachment of Custom Lapel Pins

The common attachments are deluxe, butterfly clutch, rubber clutch, magnetic backing, safety-pin back, and self-adhesive backing.

Deluxe Clutch

Deluxe Clutch has an elegant metal piece that grasps around the pin, offering more security than butterfly types of clasps but less bulkiness as well.

Butterfly Clutch

his pin backing is quite similar to the safety-pin but it has a flat part on top of the straight metal pin. This allows you to attach your lapel pins more securely and they are not likely to fall off or get unclasped while wearing them, even with movements. However this type will be bulkier than the safety pin types of pins. Butterfly Clutches can be made on gold or silver finish.

Rubber Clutch

The rubber clutch pin backing is the most popular among lapel pin makers because it holds the pins securely in place while offering a warm skin touch. It consist of a piece of soft plastic that grips your enamel lapel pins and hold them tight on clothes, fabric or any other types of materials.

Magnetic Backing

As its name suggests this type of backing is made of two types of magnets. The negative and positive pole attract with each other holding your enamel lapel pins on clothes or fabric. They can also be attached onto metal objects like display boards for example.

Safety-Pin Backs

As the name suggests, this pin backing consists of a straight metal pin with a clasp that goes through the backside of your lapel pin. This type is mostly used in safety pins and it has become quite popular for enamel lapel pins too because they are easy to apply on clothes or fabrics.

Self-adhesive backing

This pin backing is the simplest of all types available. It consists of a thin piece of metal with an adhesive tape on one side to be placed onto your lapel pins before you stick them onto fabric or clothes. Although they are simple and easy to use they stick better on solid, non-porous materials. If you want to remove them just apply water.
